# Flexible for OpenSCAD - The Designer Update

What landed in the OpenSCAD plugin since May: a Customizer that writes back to source, polygon face editing, floating parts mode and live function evaluation.

A short follow-up to the OpenSCAD plugin post - quite a lot has landed since May.
The big one: the Customizer now writes back into your file. Move a spinner, tick a checkbox, pick a dropdown value, and the variable is rewritten in place - name and // [min:max] annotation left intact - with the 3D view updating live. Each control’s edits collapse into a single undo step. After a change the objects it affected briefly flash a yellow border, so you can see what you just moved.
It also moved into the Designer as a tab next to the scene tree, so the model stays visible while you fiddle with parameters. And numeric fields are type-in now with fine stepping, because a [min:max] range used to force a step of 1 - which made fractional values impossible to set. That was a bad one.
Before that came polygon editing. Click a face on a polygon() or polyhedron(), drag the face or its vertices, and the edit saves to source. The live preview renders both now, and you can start a new one as an editable square or pyramid.
There’s also a Floating Parts mode that highlights disconnected, off-plate geometry in red - which is exactly the thing you normally discover after the print has failed.
User-defined functions get evaluated in the live preview too, so files that compute their own parameters finally render properly.
Still no OpenSCAD executable needed for any of it.
