# Slaide - A Presentation Format Built for AI

We open sourced Slaide, a plain-text presentation format. Markdown plus a small YAML theme, rendering to web decks, PDF, and real editable PowerPoint.

So this is an exciting one: we open sourced Slaide.
Here’s the problem it solves. Ask an AI for a deck and you get a .pptx back - which is a zip full of bulky XML that models get wrong constantly. Shapes overlap, text overflows, and you spend longer fixing it than you would have spent just making the thing yourself.
A .slaide file is Markdown plus a small YAML theme. A few kilobytes of plain text. Models write that correctly, every time. And because the theme carries the design, nobody has to hand-place pixels.
One file renders to a navigable web deck, a high-fidelity PDF, and editable PowerPoint - real text boxes and shapes, not a screenshot of a slide pretending to be one.
npm install -g @aivorynet/slaide slaide new talk.slaide slaide app talk.slaide That last command opens it in the native viewer, which is written in Rust and fetched automatically on first run. There’s also slaide import deck.pptx if you want to pull an existing deck in, and slaide dev for a live preview while you write.
Most of it is Apache-2.0 and sits on GitHub: the language, the renderer, the viewer, export, import, the MCP server, the agent skill. The visual editor is free too - you just sign in. Only the cloud agent that drafts and revises decks for you is paid.
I’ve wanted a text format for slides for about fifteen years, honestly. It just never made sense until AI needed one too.
